LOCAL ACTIVITIES

We understand that with the current circumstances, we should all practice social distancing, avoid social gatherings and stay home. This is why most of the #ISTANDFOR campaign runs on online platform, on Facebook and on Instagram. But this does not stop us from planning local activities as part of the #ISTANDFOR campaign to look forward to when we have overcome this critical situation.

When the time comes to leave our isolation behind, we will be ready to offer you a variety of local activities to choose from in order to make youth empowerment a reality. Our main goals with these activities are:

  • to motivate and educate other young people on issues we personally care about

  • to give you the opportunity to engage face-to-face with other people who stand for the same issues as you

  • to show you what EYCA is and what the European Youth Card can offer you

  • to help you connect with members of the EYCA Youth Panel and locally with member organisations of EYCA.

We designed our local activities according to the five thematic periods.

World Café at Schools

Where: Malta

When: TBA

Organised by: Mark

Description of local activity:

In this activity, we want to collect perspectives of students about their participation in school decision-making processes and consult them about their priorities and their main interests. By the end of the world café, we hope to have a comprehensive map of challenges and opportunities on how young people are involved in decision-making in schools.

Clothing graffiti

Where: Budapest, Hungary

When: TBA

Organised by: Alexandra
Description of local activity:
The main goal of this activity is to have an open discussion about human rights with young people and to teach them a clothing painting technique. We find it crucial that young people understand what human rights are and what possible challenges occur - especially in a state of emergency. We plan to ask young people to bring clothes they want to paint and show what they stand for when it comes to human rights.

Dialogue between youth and local authorities

Where: Madrid, Spain

When: TBA

Organised by: Julia

Description of local activity:

The main goal of this activity is to connect young people and local authorities from the Community of Madrid. We plan to involve young people in decision-making processes on sustainable development by providing an opportunity for young people to design proposals to promote local sustainability.

Cleaning event

Where: Germany

When: TBA

Organised by: Luka

Description of local activity:

With this activity, we want to highlight the importance of what a small group of people can do for the environment they live in. The main goal is to have fun together while cleaning and picking up litter. We also want to encourage young people to be conscious about how and what they consume by presenting how the EYC provides discounts for products from local entrepreneurs.

Trains4Activists

Where: Greece

When: TBA

Organised by: Markos

Description of local activity:

Trains4Activists is an interactive and participatory event where young people and Markos will travel by train in Greece to promote the European Youth Card and the benefits of it. During the eight train trips the participants will perform street actions and activities with the passengers on wellbeing but also on youth empowerment and EU identity. The Trains4Activists will be organised with the support of TrainOSE, a Greek partner of EYCA.

Mental health yoga

Where: Budapest, Hungary

When: TBA

Organised by: Alexandra

Description of local activity:

We invite young people to participate at the mental health yoga and brunch. With this activity, we plan to discuss how mental health plays an important role in our day-to-day life. We plan to discuss our #ISTANDFOR campaign, on why it is important to stand for the things you feel passionate about and encourage the participants to take action.

Youth participation and advocacy forum

Where: Scotland

When: TBA

Organised by: Huw with the help of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), Action for Local Youth Voice Empowerment UK (ALYVE UK)

Description of local activity:

Our main goal is to bring young people together from across communities in Scotland to a forum to discuss the extent to which they feel they are empowered to actively participate in local decision making and democracy, and to workshop on solutions to key obstacles and the future of local youth participation in Scotland. We will also rely on social media platforms as we encourage young people to share their experiences of engaging in participation and local democracy. It is important to understand the value of the engagement of young people in participation and local democracy.
